I wonder how many of us look in the mirror each day and have that heavy sigh…the one that our bodies hear as disapproval, dismissal, dismay.
I wonder how our body must take that in.
Consider that your body is the first person you ever had charge of. Your body is the first person you were given repsonsibility to care for. What if you made that sound when you looked at your child? Is this the kind of parent you strive to be? Disapproving, dismissing, dismayed?
As parents we try to build up our children, don’t we? We try to encourage them, to show them grace and model forgiveness. Why are we so quick to throw away our first “child?” Our bodies belong to us just as our children belong to us, but only for a little while. This body is ours only for a little while. The care we take of it matters, a great deal.
Today begin to look on your body with as much love and concern, as much grace and peace, as much care as you would give to a child. Give thanks to God for this body today.
