Advent Reflections: Day 15

God indeed is my savior;
I am confident and unafraid.
My strength and my courage is the LORD,
and he has been my savior.
With joy you will draw water
at the fountain of salvation.

Is 12:2-3

We are only 10 days from Christmas. Take a moment to think through how this season has been for you. Imagine yourself on a road, when you look behind you, what is it that you see? What stands out in the road you have traveled so far this Advent season? Can you still remember the focus or the anchor you chose?  Look ahead on that road now, the next 10 days. What kind of focus do you want to take? What can anchor you to this present moment as we draw nearer and nearer to the feast?

Our position today is called “Strength.”  It is a position of balance, strength building, focus. In the next few days we will cycle through several balance positions. When I’m teaching classes I always tell people to choose a place to focus your gaze during positions of balance. The higher your focus, the more difficult the balance becomes. This is such a mirror for our journey in faith. Sometimes we have to set our focus closer to the ground, closer to where our feet meet the mat and then we work our way upward as we gain strength and confidence. The more we have going on around us, the harder it is to place our focus upward, sometimes, we have to get our footing first, remind ourselves of where we live and then we can lift our eyes to the heavens.

Strength

Strength

From Standing (or coming from Standing Dove) step back into a wide lunge. Keep the front knee behind the big toe and straighten the back leg as much as possible. The deeper the lunge the more challenging the position. Heel on the back leg is raised and heart is lifted. You may bring your hands to the front leg for support or to Prayer Position. For added intensity, begin Prayer Breathing as well. Breathe through using your anchoring image, words or the verse for today.

My strength and my courage is the LORD,
and he has been my savior.
